In the proper heart of Santander, by the sea, the new Maritim Museum of the Cantabrian Sea offers to the visitor one of the richest and varied proposals related with the sea and the men dealing with it
There is a moderm aquarium with more than 3000 square meters of exhibition were all the relationships among sea and mankind are shown.
In the land of the prehistorical caves, the Museum of Prehistorical art and Archeology shows some of the treaures found in the different regional caves:La Garma, El Castillo, Altamira (World Patrimonium). It is one of the reference museums in Europe for paleolitic art and stone and bone tools.
It incluyes multiple possibilities, as we can visit the fishermen´s villages of Santoña, Laredo and Castro-Urdiales, the Bien Aparecida Virgen Sanctaury (patron of Cantabria) and the Saint Christ Church in Limpias. There are many landscapes both of the inland and seaside and a great variety of typical dishes based on seafood to enjoy.
An old miner train will guide the visitors 400 meters through a conditioned tunnel. Once leaving the train, and alter 60 meters walking we reach the Galería Gorda.
All the way inside the cave is conditioned for all kind of visitors.
The 1500 long visit has got both geological and miner archeology values, and it takes one hour to end.
The Guggenheim Museum, located in Bilbao, 100 kms. far away from Santander, was designed by the American architect Frank O. Gehry. It is a magnificent example of the most vanguardist architecture of the XX century. It hostes both a permanent collection and different exhibitions of contemporary and ethnic art.
